What is powerful, contagious and can instantly make you feel good?

What one thing do you do every time you are happy? When you are feeling loved? Feeling calm? Feeling joy? When you hear someone laugh or when someone says something wonderful to you or they look at you in a way that gives you butterflies…?

What is the one thing that without a doubt you will do?

Ok, I will give you a hint.

It involves your face… another clue…

It takes fewer muscles to do it than to frown… one more…

It’s free…

That’s right, you’ve got it, you smile!

When you are feeling any of these states your face breaks into a big bloody cheesy grin, the skin at the edges of your eyes wrinkles, well mine does anyway, and all of a sudden your face comes alive. It’s like someone has turned on a light switch, your eyes shine and you perhaps flash your nashers for a second. You are beautiful. I don’t think I have ever looked at someone who was smiling and not smiled back. Even when I’ve been mid tears, if someone has flashed me a grin then I cannot stop myself from giving even the smallest smiles back.

Smiling is infectious.

But not only is smiling good for your face, making you instantaneously more attractive and appealing to the people around you, but smiling is also flipping fantastic for your general wellbeing. Smiling lifts your mood, and can even lengthen your life.

The simple act of smiling activates your brain, sparking the release of neuropeptides, as well as a chemical cocktail of feel-good hormones including dopamine, endorphins and serotonin. Serotonin is a natural anti-depressant and endorphins a natural pain reliever. The result, a more relaxed state, with the added bonus of a lower heart rate and blood pressure!

Smiling is also part of a neuropsychological response which occurs due to the way that seeing a smiling face activates your orbitofrontal cortex. This is the part of your brain that processes sensory rewards, meaning that when someone smiles at you, you feel rewarded.

There is no denying it, smiling is awesome. One simple thing that ANYONE can do, at any time, has the power to form a relationship between two human beings, release a chemical reaction in the body that supports optimal health and longevity, whilst also making you feel rewarded! Excuse me for one moment as I apply a permanent smile to my face and be done with it.

When you smile, in the words of Buddha, ‘you radiate boundless love towards the entire world’. I read that and instantly in my mind, I have created a superhero. She is clothed in a black catsuit, trimmed with pink, with the word SMILE printed in white glitter across her chest. Her superpower, smiling! She smiles and radiates boundless love to those in her path. Her smile helps those who feel down to step up. It helps those who feel lost to find themselves and helps those who feel scared to overcome their fears and shine. I can even hear a little jingle of a theme tune in the back of my mind.

So what’s the message from this post?

Well, it’s simple. Nothing grand or mind-blowing. Instead, it is three simple words which I hope will have the power to spark a wonderful array of reactions in your body that stick with you for the rest of the day ahead.

If you want to have a good day, if you want to instantly lift your mood, raise your spirits and the spirits of those around you, become unequivocally attractive then all you have to do is… just F**king Smile!

I may not know what kind of week you have had, I am unsure how you may have come across this blog and I do not know your name, but what I do know for sure is that you have the power to create something magical. You can do anything that you set your mind to. This world offers you endless opportunity each and every day when you open your eyes and start a new day. You may not be where you want to be right now, you may have dreams in your heart and head that you often wonder whether you will ever manifest into your reality. And you know what that’s ok. Not being where you want to means one thing, that you have somewhere that you want to go and believe me when I say that all things you see around you one day only existed as a dream in someone’s head or heart. You don’t need to wonder, you can make your dreams your reality if you really want. Perhaps all you need is some support, someone standing beside you cheering you on and helping you to overcome the challenges, fears or limiting beliefs that may be holding you back. Maybe all you need is some accountability?

Only you know what you need, but I tell you what, stick a smile on your face and one thing is for sure, those thoughts about how you can move forward with your life and create the life you truly desire, will all of a sudden come to you a hell of a lot quicker than they did without it.
